"Starry Eyes" (2014)

I'm going to just come out and say that "Starry Eyes" (2014) is easily in my list of top ten horror films of this decade thus far. Jaw dropping performance by Alex Essoe, an actress I wasn't familiar with before seeing this but will forever remember now. The film itself not only pulls back the curtain to reveal the darker nature of Hollywood, but it also seems to be a dire warning about how the ambition to succeed can sometimes consume one's soul. The film just builds and builds and builds as we watch the main character slipping further into insanity (very much like Polanski's "Repulsion") and once that last act hits...wow! I will certainly be watching the careers of writer-directors Kevin Kölsch & Dennis Widmyer's, as well as Alex Essoe's with great interest after having watched this!  9 out of 10 for me.
