"Wyrmwood" (2014)
Watched
"Wyrmwood" (2014), which is being billed as "'Mad Max' Meets 'Dawn of
the Dead'". I have to admit to being completely burnt out on zombies
going back about 10 years now, where even before "The Walking Dead"
there was some new low budget zombie movie hitting DVD every week. In
fact, I usually put anything zombie related on the bottom of my "to
watch" pile (which is the polar opposite of how
I was back in the 90's, when there was a drought of zombie related
films). But this one seemed to have good word of mouth, plus being a
"Mad Max" fan I was curious to check this one out. I'm happy to say
that "Wyrmwood" is a total blast from beginning to end, and even took me
back to my teenage years when anything with zombies gave me complete
and utter joy! It's hyper-violent and very over-the-top at times and it
all kicks into gear right from the opening scene. Once the film goes
full on "Mad Max", complete with a suped-up vehicle designed for killing
zombies, I couldn't help but sit there with a big ass grin. If I have
any complaints (other than the fact that the world seemingly goes
completely post-apocalyptic in a span of 24 hours), was the side story
about a mad doctor performing experiments on zombies in a mobile lab
didn't really hold my interest as much as the main action. That said
though, this is one film that made me believe their might still be some
life in the dead after all! 8 out of 10 for me.
